Brewing Up Business in Hyde Park

Located just six miles south of Downtown Chicago on the southwest shore of Lake Michigan, and home to the University of Chicago and some of the area’s most popular tourist destinations, Hyde Park has been undergoing quite a reinvention.

Since accepting the management assignment of the University of Chicago retail portfolio in 2012, McCaffery Interests’ Brokerage Team has redefined Hyde Park as a sought-after commercial center. Leveraging its established relationships, the MI Team has successfully populated the 53rd Street Corridor with great local boutiques like Modern Cooperative, The Silver Room, and AKIRA; chef-driven restaurants including Yusho, A10, and The Promontory. The opening of such unique retail, dining and entertainment venues has multiplied options for students and area residents, broadened the Hyde Park footprint, and created a must-see attraction for the rest of the city.

Among the latest to bring its brand to this burgeoning area is Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales. With roots in Dexter, Michigan, ten miles northwest of Ann Arbor, Jolly Pumpkin creates “fantastic beers of truly outstanding artisan quality.” The small-scale producer—a first for Hyde Park—will begin pouring its “simple and complex; complex yet simple” brews in 2017.
