McCaffery, the controlling entity of SCORE-CDE, is pleased to announce it has been awarded $50 million in New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund. SCORE is a Community Development Entity that provides capital to qualifying businesses and projects in highly distressed low-income areas marked by industrial flight in Illinois and Indiana. First funded in 2012, SCORE has received $235 million in awards to date.

When you think of the Strip District, visions of markets and music and cafes enter your mind. Artist, illustrator and muralist Brian Holderman, of Holderman Art Graphics, set out to capture those images in a larger-than-life scene. He created a digital illustration showcasing the personality of the Pittsburgh neighborhood where people shop, dine, and are entertained. His works were installed on Friday at The Terminal building along Smallman Street. The area will be host to shops and office space as well as a market.

With the massive, five-block Terminal redevelopment in the Strip District on its way to completion this fall, the same developer has plucked a nearby piece of land for future development. Chicago-based McCaffery Interests has acquired a 3.5-acre site adjacent to the former produce terminal from Rugby Realty, a New Jersey-based developer that had planned the $80 million Brickworks office development on the spot.

Chicago-based McCaffery Interests has acquired a 3.5-acre site next to the terminal from Rugby Realty, which at one time had plans to build an $80 million office and retail development there. McCaffery closed on the acquisition last week. It paid a cool $19.5 million, or almost $130 a square foot, for the sprawling tract, which runs along Smallman Street from 21st to 23rd streets. The purchase adds to McCaffery’s considerable holdings in the Strip.
