The McCaffery team has had an active presence in Pittsburgh for more than 15 years. Their presence began prior to the 2006 opening of the adaptive reuse Armstrong Cork Factory and then on to the development of Lot 24 in 2012. In total, McCaffery has developed, leased or managed 868 apartments in the city of Pittsburgh, in turn showing their dedication to the community by developing places which bring people together. In 2019, McCaffery broke ground on their largest project in the city, the redevelopment of the historic Produce Terminal into the Strip District Terminal and the building at 1600 Smallman.

McCaffery is pleased to announce that following the fire incident on September 30th, 1600 Smallman has been inspected and construction at the office/retail development has resumed. The building remains on track to deliver to tenants in Spring 2020.

Pamela Austin is overseeing two pivotal redevelopments for the Strip District valued at $100 million, the Strip District Terminal and 1600 Smallman. How her life and career brought her to this point follows a somewhat unlikely trajectory that starts in rural southern Illinois where she was the first person in her family to go to college, to Chicago, where she met her current boss, Dan McCaffery.

McCaffery Interests has given the go-ahead to contractor PJ Dick to begin work, with construction expected to start this week, said Pamela Austin, senior project manager of development. “We’re just very excited to get going. It’s been awhile. We think it’s going to be really important for the Smallman Street area to get these done,” she said.
